Update from Vested Interest in K9s(1/11/13): GROUPON CAMPAIGN TO OUTFIT POLICE K-9’S WITH PROTECTIVE VESTS IN 18 STATES
A two week nationwide campaign through Groupon has raised over $55,000 to outfit police K9s with bullet and stab protective vests throughout the country.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is the non profit organization and charity partner selected by Groupon Grassroots as the beneficiary.
“We chose to feature Vested Interest in K-9s, Inc. in our ‘Best of’ series because we had such a great experience working with them earlier in 2012,” said Kyle Klatt, Groupon Grassroots Supervisor. “Even though we knew they had a compelling initiative, Groupon donors proved, with astounding contributions, that this is a mission worth supporting.”
The program began on Christmas day and ran through 11:59pm on January 9. The online $10 donation, suggested folks purchase a GROUPON (which is a tax deductible donation) through a secure website where all funds were allocated to purchase ballistic vests for our four legged crime fighters.
The campaign featured theMassachusettsbased non-profit at no charge.
The proceeds of $55,475 will allow the organization to outfit 53 police K-9’s in 18 states.K-9’s who will benefit from the donations are located in Alabama, California, Illinois, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Colorado, Washington, Missouri, Indiana, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Minnesota, Oregon, Alaska and Hawaii.

The campaign has featured the Massachusetts based non-profit since Christmas at no charge All funds will go towards bullet and stab protective vests for the law enforcement dogs who put their lives on the line for the community and their human partners. The goal is to raised $51,500 by the end of the event on MIDNIGHT on Wednesday which will allow the organization to outfit 50 police K9s with vests throughout the United States.
The Seattle Police Department K9 Unit requested our four newest teams get outfitted, and anticipates at least two will be receiving vests through this particular online Groupon Event.
ABOUT VESTED INTEREST IN K9S, INC.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) all volunteer charity located in East Taunton, MA. whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests for law enforcement dogs throughout the United States. Each vest costs $1006 and has a 5 year warranty. The nonprofit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially life saving body armor for their four legged K9 Officers. Through private and corporate sponsorships Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided 66 police dogs with protective vests in 2012. In September of 2012, the non-profit hit a milestone of donating $100,000 in protective vests to law enforcement agencies throughout the United States.
The organization orders the U.S. made vests exclusively from distributor Regency Police Supply in Hyannis, MA. who also does the custom embroidery on the body armor. The vests are manufactured by Protective Products Enterprises out of Sunrise, FLA.
New K9 graduates as well as K9′s with expired vests are eligible to be added to the organization’s waiting list. President, Sandy Marcal began working with law enforcement agencies in 2000 to coordinate efforts between various law enforcement agencies, vest sponsorships, fundraising events and the media within Massachusetts. In 2011, efforts were expanded to assist police dogs throughout the United States. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. currently has a list of over 20 police dogs needing vests.
