“NO MORE NIGHTS WITHOUT A BED TO SLEEP IN”
Beds for Kids was started in the summer of 2014 by Seattle Police Department (SPD) veteran patrol officers Jeremy Wade and Ryan Gallagher. As officers on patrol, Jeremy and Ryan were no strangers to seeing difficult and challenging situations while on-duty, but perhaps nothing touched them more than when these officers responded to a house call in Seattle’s Central District and found two young girls without warm beds to sleep on.
Wanting to help, Jeremy and Ryan returned with brand new twin beds so that these young girls could get a good night’s sleep. Recognizing that there are many more children in our community in a similar situation as this family, the Beds for Kids Project was born to help provide for this most basic of necessities to children all throughout our city.
In its first year, the Beds for Kids Project was able to purchase, build and deliver 50 beds to families who needed the extra help. Together with the generous help of donors, Seattle Police Foundation volunteers, and IKEA, we showed that we as a community can make a real difference in the lives of those in-need.
In 2015, its second year, Beds for Kids built on the success of 2014 and provided 100 beds for children. This year, Beds for Kids hopes to continue building on its success and provide more than 100 beds for children all throughout our community. We cannot do it alone however. Please contribute to this important project. Help these great officers provide a warm bed for children in-need.
